Comments:
This game confuses me deeply.
It was made by Hudson, upon whom one can generally rely to deliver games of astounding insanity (after all, they brought us Bonk's Adventure and the Adventure Island series) - even their corporate headquarters looks like the product of a diseased mind.
Xexyz blends a fairly good platformer with a somewhat fun shooter ... but it's just ... bland. It has none of the personality gamers have grown to expect from Hudson. No talking dinosaurs, no power-ups that make your eyes explode, not even any dolphins to ride.
On the plus side, this cart presents a fair challenge. Usually I find myself struggling with shooters and breezing through platformers, but the levels in Xexyz are the exact opposite. Offsetting the challenge, however, is the fact that the cart is hideously buggy. I'd rather be challenged by tough enemies than by doors you can't enter for no good reason. I had to restart my game several times due to end-of-level doors not working.
I've archived a good few games I don't want to play again just because they're terrible. Xexyz really isn't terrible. It just really isn't good, either. Bottom line: I'm glad to have finally archived a game that starts with X. I just won't play it again.
If you're deeply interested in this game, feel free to check out the Xexyz game shrine at NesPlayer.com.
